I met Jamie and family in the Bournemouth Vans store (RIP) a fair few summers ago. Jamie's always struck me as a proper nice bloke and I've followed Fish4Junk over the past few years and am thrilled to see the business thrive in its new home in Moordown.
Jamie's shop is super, super cool and kitted out with all the vintage, retro, rare records, mid-century finds you could desire - all an extension of Jamie's tastes and keen eye.
I like Jamie because he talks openly about having jumped off the corporate conveyor belt of a company car, perceived security, stress and being a nodding donkey for the sake of corporate peace, to doing his own thing. So it may have taken 16 years to open a shop, but he's doing it, and a year in, I caught up with Jamie for Co.
El: What does it mean to have opened your first shop?
J: Opening the shop has meant a lot to me ! Its taken many years to do and ended my life in the commercial world. From being a side hustle to a Dream!
El: You've told me you're the happiest you've ever been, why is that?
J: Because I am in charge of my own destiny and I am surrounded by things I love / Collect and enjoy. Plus we have some awesome people / shops in our district of Moordown.
El: What's the biggest lie society tells us?
J: I think the biggest lie is trying to make us as children fit one jelly mould.
El: What's your favourite stuff to source?
J: My fave items to source, and I know it sounds cliché but the unusual - from a lovely piece of mid century modern to a felt butchers lamb prop from the 50s (recently sourced).
El: What's been your rarest find so far?
J: My rarest find has to be either a Fornasetti Umbrella stand which was awesome or the Prototype Koford Larsen designed arm chair we have just picked up. Its like Treasure hunting everyday - I m the Indiana Jones of 2022!
Thank you Jamie!
